Deep Blue’s 10 Most Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do Travel Agents charge extra to book and plan vacations?

Short answer: maybe. Some travel agents may charge a planning fee or markup certain journeys to make up for the time spent planning itineraries or trips. DEEP BLUE DOES NOT CHARGE FEES OR MARK UP TRIPS. We do not believe in charging service fees, etc. We hope that by providing speedy and great customer service that if we curate the right vacation for you, that you would go ahead and book that through us. We make our money through our vendor relationships and do not believe in charging extra to our customers.

2. I book my own trips through the specific company, why would I need a travel agent?

That’s great! We used to do that all the time. It is great having control over every facet of your hard earned vacation, and we understand that. The benefits that travel agents give you is that we take the planning and management of your vacation off of your hands. Deep Blue works with hundreds of suppliers that can curate specific itineraries, excursions, etc. We have the visibility to look into who may be able to provide the best service, and can often bundle services together with individual suppliers, leaving you to have to deal with one company, us. We also are your point of contact with the cruise line, or land vacation company and we handle all of your changes and correspondence with that company. You deal with local people and we deal with everyone else. Think of a travel agent as your local contact for these big companies.

3. Can a travel agent get me secret deals, or prices that I can’t see online?

Again, maybe. We work with a variety of suppliers for hotels, tours, all-inclusive resorts, cruise lines, etc. Sometimes through these companies, we may have access to better rates than you can see online. Particularly this may happen with hotels when we can get a rate through a wholesaler or a consolidator. This may also occur when we can package things together with the companies. These packages may include flights, theme park tickets, transfers, etc. However, most of these packages can also be built directly with the company if you know where to look. With cruises, we are at the mercy of current promotions with the cruise lines just like everyone else.

Referencing number 2 above, travel agents do not exist to find you the secret deals or pricing. If we could do that, we would probably be traveling all the time!! We are here to take the stress away from planning your vacation, as well as provide you the best possible rates and pricing in our power. As a bonus, we will monitor your cruise pricing for you and will automatically rebook you at lower rates should they become available. We’re just nice like that!

4. We want to travel as a group for our family reunion, church, <insert event here>, etc. Are you able to plan and book groups?

Absolutely!! We love groups. This also may be where those not-so-secret deals may come into play… A lot of travel companies will do special pricing for groups. This is especially true for cruise lines when you have more than 8 cabins or 16 people. We have extensive experience and training in booking and servicing your group needs. Heck, we plan groups as an agency so that people can obtain that group pricing while still traveling as individuals. Look out for them here soon.

5. What if something goes wrong on our trip? Can you help us?

Yes! While we always want you to work with the hotel or cruise line while you are there for a resolution, we can help you. We have direct contacts with all of our suppliers and they will be able to help you towards a resolution to whatever issue you may have.

6. Can I book our next cruise onboard the cruise line, and still work through you?

Yes, if you booked the cruise through us and you book your next one onboard, they will automatically transfer that booking to us. If you did not book through us, and want to work with us you can transfer that booking to us after the fact, with certain restrictions. You can read more about that here.

7. Are you able to book Disney World, Universal or a combination of both?

Yes, yes, and yes. We are able to book Disney World, Disney Land, Universal, Sea World, Busch Gardens, and more. We can package tickets with both on property hotels as well as authorized off property hotels. We can also package your vacation with flights as well as transfers (in a limo if you want) between parks and to and from the airport.

8. Can you book domestic flights?

It’s complicated. While we would love to service every part of your traveling needs, trips that just involve domestic flights, we will shy away from. It’s not you, it’s us. There is a high propensity for fraud in domestic airline travel, and while we have consolidators to book through, it is better for you and us if you book those flights directly through the airline. The exception to that is when we package flights for you with a hotel or itinerary. When we package flights, we are working with suppliers who specifically manage those flights for your vacation and will be able to help you should something go wrong (like a delay or cancellation). Of course, if you have a travel need you want us to look at, let us know and we will definitely let you know whether we can help or not, for free.

9. Do I REALLY need travel insurance?

While we cannot tell you that yes you absolutely need it, as it depends on your personal preference and your tolerance to risk in general, we HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend it! Travel insurance protects you from unseen trip interruptions, cancellations due to illness or death of yourself or a family member (some provide cancel for any reason coverage), as well as medical needs and evacuation. You never know what may happen while you are on vacation, and for us it is a very small additional investment on an expensive trip that provides peace of mind. You hope to never ever have to use it, but if you do need it, its there for you. Also, in the grand scheme of the price of the trip, the insurance is a minimal addition.

10. What cruise line, destination, etc. do you recommend?

While we have traveled extensively, we will work with you and your preferences to find your perfect destination. Keep an eye out for a future article for our favorites, though!
